That's Entertainment

How to become an Internet Rockstar: "Internet Rockstar = All the fun with none of the pesky pressure to produce another top selling CD or make anybody rich or famous." (On that note, you can't be me; I'm a rockstar. *parental advisory*)

I don't know if I've ever expressed how much I hate Creed before... but this shirt is the best!

Starpolish -- I had to laugh reading the tour diaries. They are so right on.

Analog Roam -- music and musings. Could be cool.

It's Dancing Paul! Entertaining for a few minutes, at least.

And I think I've linked to insound before... but I still like snooping around that place now and again.

Kiss Me, Kate was on public television tonight. Love it! It's too darn hot.

Name that Candybar -- can you name the sweet treat by looking at the cross-section?

I forgot about this one -- b-may.com. (Also remembered as the Olympic Worker Blogger.)

I need to get this for Thux and Michael. They are so pro-Mac.

Song for the Night:
Love Song
- Tesla
I unashamedly admit that this song has been, and I believe always will be, one of my top seven favourite songs of all time.
~So you think that it's over
Say your love has fin'lly reached the end
Any time you call, night or day
I'll be right there for you if you need a friend~

In looking for news about the accident, I came across this little story about Eulah and Beulah. I don't know... I just thought it was cute.

This article mentions the bus among the vehicles in the 15-car pile-up. Yeeks! (Mike has just a separated shoulder, by the way.)

I guess when the occupation of most of the people one knows involves traveling a good portion of the year, then it only makes sense that one would know a higher percentage of people who get into accidents. Mike's bus was in an accident in the mountains of Colorado tonight. He's the worst of the bunch -- getting x-rays at the moment. Guitar/piano players with broken arms and shoulders are never in good positions.

Read Pauley's words on club safety. As a fireman's daughter and granddaughter, I wonder if that makes us more consciencious of our surroundings and the potential danger... but she raises some excellent points. Don't rely on others to take care of you -- make sure that you are aware of your surroundings.

A friend from the UK called tonight. (...with a new name for me... Rose Red.) He always has something interesting going on, and I'm never short of entertained by his calls. The potential war was brought up, and it was interesting to hear a first-hand opinion from that side of the world. And he left me wondering... yes, just where do all those anti-American middle easterners get their American flags? Is there a shop there whose specialty is making highly flammable American flags?

I am such a sucker for beautiful wedding photography. Can I have this picture if/when I get married, please?

Planning at St. Patrick's Day party? Send online invitations with theplunge.com -- organize the details for any event you have coming up. In this day and age, virutal invites are often the way to go... and this is cuter than a boring old email.

Public Service Day: Part 2
What people are searching for when they find my site.

• Basketball Themesongs - not sure exactly what you want. Here are some college team fight songs. If you're looking for the NBA on NBC themesong... that would be "Roundball Rock" by John Tesh.

• Buddy Icons - originalicons.com... Spongebob, Joe Millionaire, etc.

"Promise" by Krezip - free sheet music download. Granted, it is only 3/4's of the song, but I got sick of it. Theory really isn't my forte, but you should be able to get the point.

• Guitar tabs -- Krezip, Daniel Bedingfield - If You're Not the One

• Ringtones - Spongebob, et. al. for Verizon

And yes, one of these days I'll put up photos and instructions for how to make my necktie skirt.

And... for those of you who keep coming here looking for "Midgets for Hire"... they are called Little People, don't you know??

The cover story for Newsweek this week is about what anxiety does to your body. I read it with great interest... not because of any great fear of world war. (Don't get me wrong, it is a major concern... but I am fearing something a little closer to home these days.)

The whole roommate fiasco is really starting to wear on me. For the past month, I've been having trouble sleeping... eat once a day... worry constantly that I am going to come home to a raving psycho who can't believe I moved the dog dishes to the basement or something. Two nights ago, I was turning on to my street. There was a bus in front of our house. Any other day, I would have realistically thought, "Oh the boys who live three doors down must be heading out on tour." But no... because I used a bus to move my stuff in, my first thought was, "Oh God, she's there."

According to Life Positive, laughter is the best medicine. (I am usually quick to point out the humor in any given situation... I'm just having a hard time this time.) Among other things, laughter:
• Lowers blood pressure and reduces hypertension.
• Reduces stress hormones (studies shows, laughter induces reduction of at least four of neuroendocrine hormones—epinephrine, cortisol, dopac, and growth hormone, associated with stress response).
• Triggers the release of endorphins—body's natural painkillers.
• Produces a general sense of well-being.

I think that makes a great seque into todays Theme.

Theme Thursday: Laughter

My roommate Tina (above) represents my friends
who keep me laughing these days.

Prezzies from South Africa
Thux just came bearing gifts for us. I got a can of Sparletta and some incense.

Sparletta is supposedly the best cream soda in the world... according to him anyway. It's apparently bright green in color. I have to wait until it is very cold to partake. I'll give my review once I've tried it.

The incense is "Artemisia Afra". The front of the package says "Capturing the fantastic aromas of the African Bush". Haha. Thux said he didn't know exactly which aromas they were capturing.

Now see Artemisia Afra apparently has some medicinal qualities which must make it a nice thing to have around. But this is what got me: "[It] is a strong narcotic, analgesic and antihistamine, an excellent smoke-mix, reputed for its hallucinogenic effects." Great! Can't wait to try it. Haha.

FÜR ELISE -- Free sheet music. And for everyone who is coming here looking for free sheet music for "Promise" by Krezip. Well, I got sick of having the keyboard in the living room, so it's not finished... but I will put up what I have eventually. If you can't figure out the rest based on what I've got already, then you're out of luck... because I don't feel like doing it anymore.

The Boys are Back in Town
Yeah, the 3/4's of the boys have been at the studio two blocks away all week, and I've seen them for all of about three minutes yesterday. Paul is going out with the bossman for dinner, so maybe I'll get Darren & Dave to hit the town with me. I'm quite interested in hearing how the creative process went for them and toby. I'm supposedly getting a cd of the new stuff tonight. Woot woot!

If I hadn't stayed up until all hours of the night the past few days, I might be awake enough to attend the secret preview of The Life of David Gale which is slated to begin at 1AM. If only I had known sooner, I would have taken a nap or something. But I am afraid that I would sleep through it... and I genuinely want to enjoy that film, so I'll wait.

I spoke to Bradley and Karli on the phone tonight. *sniff* Karli is learning to say "Aunt Danielle"... except it comes out more like "An Dayo". So sweet! Bradley informed me that his new favourite game is Age of Empires. That's my nephew!

Wow... just ran across this. Open letter to John Mayer from a true superfan. Yeeps.

I Love Today!

First thing this morning, Mom asked if I would come home at the beginning of March when my Dad goes on another snowmobile trip. She gets lonely... plus she wants to use and abuse my creative abilities to get started on redoing her house. She said she'd buy the ticket if I would get up the nerve to ask off. The bossman gave the okay. So... I'm going home... I'm going home.... I'm going home... hey, hey, hey, hey!

Ellis Paul - I heard two songs on The Songwriter Sessions when I was driving back from the river yesterday. I was so moved by them that I drove straight to a music store and bought The Speed of Trees. I think he's incredible. It's going to be a folk-music afternoon.

Happy Valentine's Day!
May hugs and kisses be given in abundance.

Friday Five
1.Explain why you started to journal/blog.

I came across a cool blog online and though it was great. (I'm sorry; I forget who it was now!) I was always a bit of a journal keeper growing up and had wanted to do something online. With all the new blogging tools, it was so easy to start.

2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not?
A few select people I know on a personal basis have been given the link. I don't know. I complain about work too much to let people around here know about it! :)

3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog?
Not to speak of.

4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year?
This is far too ambitious for me. I just want a link from Wil Wheaton. Ha!

5. Pimp five some of your favorite journals/blogs.
My most regular reads these days are as follows:
tash.mcgill -- my cute lil' kiwi. she reads Moby's site so I don't have to! :)
Tripping on Reality -- my nametwin in VA
Newton's Kumquat -- fellow Nashvillian
Intentionally Blank -- fellow Nashvillian
LifeUncommon -- love this girls photos!
The P Word -- thought-provoking and humorous
Inn of the Last Home -- really funny. Love today's entry on Dippin' Dots!
BlueDaniel -- fun new discovery
mmm... there's more, but that's all I can recall at the moment.

Song for the Day:

~My funny Valentine, sweet comic Valentine,
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable,
Yet you're my favourite work of art~

I decided that I need to move to L.A. or Miami.

You see, I have been searching for grocery delivery services, and none of them are in Tennessee. In Florida, I suppose people are too old to go buy groceries. In California, I suppose people are far to busy to buy groceries. What about us?

I truly abhor going down to the Kroger... and getting the cart... and wandering around. Even when I make a list, I end up there for an hour or more.

I don't mind going in a group where we divide and conquer. "You. Get stuff for cheesecake. You. Beverages. You. Veggies. Make 'em good. I got meat and pasta. Everybody rendezvous at the Wheat Thins at 0800 hours. Go!"

I refuse to go today. It's not that I don't have any food. I just don't have much that seems to go together. If anybody has any recipes involving rice, artichoke hearts, green beans, cream of chicken soup, and/or chorizo, please leave them in the comments. :)

I just ran across this, and it is weird for a number of reasons... but partially because this picture was on the fridge at the beanbag house for as long as I can remember:
A Gaggle of Mullets

Stratcom is tracking the man-made debris that is currently orbiting Earth. It is believed there are more that 8,500 objects baseball-sized or larger. Which then leads one to wonder how many smaller object are out there, considering that a fleck of paint left a gouge in a space shuttle window.

unlucky.com -- well, it's.... different. Claims to be the world's first prompt-based website. (I wonder when that was posted though, because people who took my advice and visited Massive Attack's site yesterday might be prone to differ.)

Happy Birthday, Dad! I wish I could be at home, but I'm loving you lots from 800 miles away.

Ain't nothing but a snow thang...
Mmm... we had a wonderful warm s*n*o*w yesterday.

Warm snow = being able to wear short sleeves while changing the lightbulb of your outdoor light even though it's snowing in the afternoon.

Warm snow = really good packing snow, perfect for snowball fights, snowmen, snow angels, snow forts, etc.

At about 7:00, Tina came through to look out the window saying she wondered what the snow was like. So we went out on the porch, and sure enough, it was perfect snow. So we got all bundled up in layers and went outside. (She recently came upon a stash of "Strangely Normal" beanies which Phil gave her, so we had matching hats.)

First order of business was building a mini-snowman on our railing to guard the house while we were away.

Then we ran across the street. Thux and Recah were just coming home, so we waited for them to go in their apartment. Then we put a mini-snowman right in front of their door. (They live on the second floor.) We then proceeded to throw snowballs at their windows. We saw shadows go past the windows, but the next thing we knew, they had come around the other side of the apartment and started throwing snow at us. It was a full-fledged snowball war for a bit, which was amazing. Thux had never had a snowball fight before, so my work here is done. Recah made her first snow angel. We threw snowballs at their other apartment, and Chris mooned us. Costa and Nick had made a snowman earlier... it was more like a snow demon though; we're not quite sure if those were meant to be horns or not.

Then Tina and I came back to our backyard. We were going to make a giant snowman, but I got out the ice-cream buckets instead. She had never made a snow fort with bucket bricks before, so we made a snow castle instead. (The flash wasn't working so much, but you get the idea from this picture.)

It's a bit hard to tell, but it really is quite complex with turrets and everything. We want to add flags to the four corners as well. Good times. Unfortunately, this morning the snow is melting, and all our labors were for naught. Oh well.

I was checking out the best places to get pizza in major cities around the u.s. Now we all know I'm not a big pizza fan, but I had forgotten all about Bazbeaux's in Indy. Now that was good pizza... with some of the most unique toppings ever (they have 52 to be exact). I used to order that for staff meetings.

Tash isn't bitter about Valentine's day... not one bit.

Song for the Day:
Theme from Ice Castles (of course) - Pheonix Big Band
~Please, don't let this feeling end
It's everything I am
Everything I want to be~

I survived the weekend o' babysitting. All of the fighting and yelling and disaster making was erased from memory when little Will woke up from his nap yesterday and came to cuddle on my lap.

Just found a great place. Worth 1000 -- image editing contest site. One of the categories was Movie Titles... and I loved this submission for Purple Rain! Another cool category was the Modern Renaissance one.

Playwright David Ives was the special guest on Studio 360 this morning. Thank goodness for real audio, because I missed most of the show. I have Ives' book All in the Timing, which is an amusing collection of 14 one-acts. You can read an excerpt of "A Sure Thing" -- which happens to be my favourite.

Have I mentioned my weird housemate situation? Yeah... something is definitely amiss. I did find out yesterday that this super cool chick that Tina and I know may be moving back to Nashville in April... and she would like to move in with us if the room is still open... so I'm excited about that. Yay for not having psychos move in.

In the spirit of Saint Valentine, I think you should read this. It is such a sweet recollection of how this guy fell in love.

On that note... blogs with cute Valentiny themes right now:
· Danielle's Tripping on Reality ... look quick, because her site has chameleon tendencies and is likely to change soon.
· Absolutely Ordinary ... I like the red hearts.

Backwash.com: the internet organized by personality. Seems like a kind of neat place... deserving of a closer look.

Song for the Day:
To Be with You - Mr. Big
~I'm the one who wants to be with you
Deep inside I hope you feel it too
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you~

Woohoo! I got a Break the Chain Award for my email response to my friend who forwarded me one of those beta-tracking spam emails.

My thoughts on Michael
Okay... let me preempt all this by saying that I realize that Michael Jackson is a little bit different. I'm not walking around here saying that everything he does falls under the "Normal" category. I just look at him and watched the special last night with the understanding that he is a little off. Not unlike how people look at elderly people or mentally handicapped people. Sure, grandma says crazy things, but everyone just looks at each other and nods knowingly... because that is just how grandma is. So it is with my Michael.

There were mixed reactions to the program. (i.e. "genuinely shocking", "Bashir got as close to Jackson as any adult ever will", "riveting"...) I, personally, thought it was pulled off much better than I had anticipated. I expected Bashir to be more ruthless and cold, but I felt like he was very considerate though pressing. I did not think it was scandelous or anything. Granted, we are all having a hard time believing the whole "only two nosejobs" claim.

The best was watching him lead the little kids around Neverland with his parasol in hand... very Willy-Wanka-like.

Jack and I discussed each segment during commercial breaks via phone. He agreed that it was a good show.

Crosswalks... why bother?
Here's my gripe for today: As you can clearly see here, Tennessee law dictates that drivers must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians crossing the road at a crosswalk without a stoplight. And as you can see here, failure to yield right-of-way is a 4-point traffic violation. So why is it that I was left standing in a crosswalk today shivering to death while twelve... count them, twelve... cars went barreling past?

Friday Five
1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn't have breakfast, why not?

Erm... the breakfast of champions -- a piece of banana bread, a bowl of potato chips, and coffee.

2. What's your favorite cereal?
Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds

3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change?
I've been on a kick where I have been walking to this little deli place for lunch. The lady there knows my order and my name, but she calls me "Love" anyway. The people there are so sweet that it makes me look forward to lunchtime. And their turkey baguette is worth the walk!

4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that?
I have been craving Los Palmos. Their beans and cheese and rice and chips and mmmm...

5. What's your favorite restaurant? Why?
In terms of all-time favourite, it would have to be Mama Carolla's in Indianapolis or The Butler in Saugatuck, Michigan. Run of the mill favs include Pizza Ranch and Applebees.

I have a rockin' yellow t-shirt on today. I bought it from one of the opening bands on Friday night. It has a Birmingham AL postmark across the front. I like it a lot.

BlueDaniel.com - I have been watching this site evolve over the last little while. Over the weekend he changed the opening to a space theme with hauntingly beautiful music. Go. Look.

That's all from me today. My boss is expecting me to perform miracles by Wednesday. Bring it.

Michael and I went to see the Ben. Gate again last night since it was their first show after returning to the states. During our four hours on the road, we were brainstorming for names for our potential booking and management company. My favorite, TriQuad, is already taken by in ISP. Poo. Michael's best was StickFigure... because the logo is so obvious. Unfortunately, stickfigure.com is already claimed by a band. Back to the drawing board.

I'm anxious to see the new Music Man. That show has a special place in my heart, because I believe it was the first live musical I ever saw... and it was the first show I auditioned for and got a part in. (Plus it is set in Iowa... "oh there's nothing halfway about the Iowa way to treat you when we treat you which we may not do at all...")

Another "So where were you when...?" moment.

I was sleeping. Manda called. I ignored the phone but could not fall back to sleep. So finally I called back and said, "Who needs an alarm clock when I've got friends like you?" She told me to turn on the television.

Prayers for the loved ones of all those involved in the tragic events today.

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime, and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. This is their game.

Here's one for those who have come to think of Dubya as more of a monkey than a president.

Friday Five
1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why?
Goodness. I can't even remember. Do the Smurfs qualify as superheros?

2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?
Easy Bake Oven. Although now that I'm older, I understand the concern about eating treats that can be baked with a light bulb.

3. What's the furthest from home you've been?
I guess Orlando.

4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet?
My grandmother taught me how to tat when I was a kid... but I did not really learn enough to actually make something. I would like to learn again just to carry on the artform.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Dinner with Karl's family is the plan tonight. Then now that the dog has moved out, I am going to do my best to remove all evidence that there ever was one. Getting dog hair out of carpet SUCKS... if you really want to know how I feel about it. But I've got my can of static guard (as recommended here), and I found one of these brushes to comb the carpet. I've got my Fabreeze ready to go. I'm going to be a one-woman-cleaning-machine!

Song for the Day:
Spinning Wheel - Blood Sweat & Tears
Hello, incredible brass section, thanks for stopping by.
